Your journey begins in a small apartment aboard the Ebon Hawk, a Republic warship under siege by Sith. A fellow soldier named Trask Ulgo runs into your quarters and insists you find Bastila before the Sith destroy her.
She saved Darth Revan from becoming the Sith Emperor, but the Dark Lord Malak eventually succeeded her. Depending on your alignment, you can reach the Star Forge to defeat Revan’s former master and his massive Sith armada (light side path) or usurp his power (dark side path).
1. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is an acclaimed role-playing game developed by BioWare and published by LucasArts. It was first released in 2003 and is widely considered to be one of the best Star Wars games ever made. It was recently announced that it is getting a remake, which will bring it up to modern standards and add new content.
The story of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic takes place 3,956 years before the events of A New Hope, chronicling the early days of the Jedi and Sith. The game explores a wide variety of planets, from the jungles of Rishi to the volcanic world of Kashyyyk, and allows you to shape the history of each of these places by how you interact with them.
In addition to a large number of quests and locations, the game features a robust character creation system that allows you to create a Jedi or a Sith and choose between the Light or Dark side of the Force. You can even gain followers to aid you on your journey, from a snarky droid to a wise Jedi, and the choices you make will affect the people around you.
In addition to the main storyline, there are several bonus adventures and mini-quests to complete. These include the origin stories of your character’s class, which are important to how you progress in the game. In addition, there are a number of companions that you can recruit several of you on your travels, including the iconic Jedi Bastila and the republic hero Carth. These companions have their own origin stories and can be recruited through a series of side-quests. You can also choose to complete a campaign against the reborn Darth Revan and his army of Sith, who are attempting to establish a new galactic order. This campaign includes a large number of missions, including ones that are set on the pirate world of Rishi and the arid desert planet of Yavin 4. It’s expected to be released later this year.
2. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II
If you enjoyed the original Knights of the Old Republic, then you’ll love its sequel. KOTOR II is a deeper, more expansive experience that takes place five years after the events of the first game, and finds the Jedi Order hunted to near extinction. It’s a challenging and rewarding adventure that will force you to choose between the light and dark sides of the Force.
Despite some antiquated mechanics in need of remedy, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II offers an incredible story that builds on the events of its predecessor in some intriguing and compelling ways. It also features an impressive cast of characters and some interesting plot machinations. It’s a remarkably entertaining and well-written RPG that has enough lightsaber combat and droid-hunting action to lure in fans of both Star Wars and role-playing games.
The newest installment to the acclaimed series, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Repulsive II: The Sith Lords, is now available on the Nintendo Switch. It follows your custom character as you battle the Sith Lords who are hunting down the Jedi to near extinction. It’s essentially the same gameplay as the original but with better graphics and an improved, slightly more complicated battle system. You’ll spend most of your time running from place to place across a variety of flat, corridor-like environments while battling with an extensive assortment of enemies. In addition to this, you’ll typically travel with two companions who will level up at the same rate as your character.
The second KOTOR game was developed by Obsidian Entertainment, a group of veteran RPG designers that took over the development for this game from the original developer, Bofare. This meant that they were given a much shorter development time than the previous game, and had to cut back on some content. Nevertheless, the game is a solid RPG that is worth playing and that could become even more entertaining with some future patches.
